Chelan and Douglas counties are on the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains and are separated by the Columbia River. "Chelan" derives from a Chelan Indian word meaning "deep water," likely a reference to 55-mile-long Lake Chelan, the third deepest lake in the country, at 1,486 ft (453 m). • Plain is a located in a scenic valley just 14 miles from Leavenworth. Winter recreation activities include, Cross Country Skiing, Snow Shoeing, Snowmobiling, and hiking.

  Plain
• As you head east on Highway 2 out of Leavenworth, just 4 miles away is this small community along the Wenatchee River.

  Peshastin
• Although not an actual community, there is a significant residential population and the pass is well known for it's snowmobiling just 57 miles from Leavenworth.
