Chelan and Douglas counties
are on the eastern edge of the Cascade Mountains and are separated by the
Columbia River. Chelan and Douglas counties have a very diverse geographic
area that includes mountains and lakes and flat areas next to the Columbia
River. The varied terrain supports the two major industries in the area,
tourism and agriculture.
"Chelan" derives from a Chelan Indian
word meaning "deep water," likely a reference to 55-mile-long Lake Chelan,
the third deepest lake in the country, at 1,486 ft (453 m). Boasting all
four seasons, Chelan County makes a recreation paradise for all ages!
Whether you enjoy snow skiing or water skiing, mountain climbing or trail
hiking, golfing or fishing, we have it all! Our location and weather makes
Chelan County the playground of the Pacific Northwest.
